The Special Victims Unit is responsible for all cases involving juvenile crime, domestic violence, runaway juveniles, child neglect, the physical abuse of children and/or vulnerable adults, and the sexual assault of both children and adults. These four Detectives also investigate cases referred to them through the Department of Social Services and Family Court. Follow-up investigations may include taking statements from witnesses, compiling physical and photographic lineups, and the collection of additional physical evidence of the crime. These Detectives are specially trained to interview children and adult victims of sexual assault.
